MC RiderRide Description
A pretty short ride beginning just north of the town of Kiandra. Technical in sections with a good road surface, this is well worth checking out. Remember to take the turn-off towards Selwyn snowfields.
Interestingly, Cabramurra is the highest town in Australia with an elevation of 1475m. Food and fuel are available in the town.
Directions
Head out of Kiandra following the Three Mile Creek towards Cabramurra.
Best Thing About This Ride
Good short fun road.
What Else To Look Out For
Nothing in particular.
Actually you *do* need to look out for something – people on the wrong side of the road in cars. They come in two flavours – tourists from the city who aren’t used to winding roads and who cut corners out of carelessness and fatigue, and (they’ll argue they don’t) locals who get along pretty good, particularly those in company (Snowy Hydro) cars. I used to live there…
On the ‘turn off to Selwyns’ bit – you can get to Selwyns on tar, but from there it’s dirt – right through to Cabramurra and occasionally very scenic.
At Cabramurra, go up to the look-out at the old town, but also go back up the hill out of town and between the dirt road to the left (to Dry Dam, Kings Cross and Selwyns) and the tar road to the right (to Tumut Pondage and Khancoban) is the road up to the radio tower – sensational views from up there!
